LFETP Courses
Liberia Field Epidemiology Training Program (LFETP) blends training of the participants with service to the country. The FETP model is based on the premise that improving the epidemiologic skills of MOH staff improves the capacity of the MOH to prevent, detect, and respond to public health priority issues, and in turn can contribute to improving the public’s health.
The current FETP approach includes three tiers to address the epidemiologic training needs at different levels of a country’s health system. These tiers are FETP-Frontline, FETPIntermediate, and FETP-Advanced. Each program uses the same training approach consistent with principles of adult education — no more than 25% program time in classroom workshops, interspersed with 75% of time learning “on the job” by conducting mentored, MOH-relevant field activities.
FETP-Frontline enhances global health security by training local public health staff to improve surveillance quality in their jurisdictions, which can be a valuable strategy to strengthen the capacity of countries to more rapidly detect, respond to, and contain public health emergencies at the source.

Participant Competencies
FETPs increase our ability to detect and respond to threats. In a world where the next outbreak is only a plane ride away, disease detectives help countries identify and stop health threats close to the source – both those we anticipate and those we don’t expect.
